Permanent and removable orthodontic retainers are used to help your teeth stay in place after braces. At Lineberger Orthodontics, Dr. Matt Lineberger, Dr. Megan Lineberger, Dr. Claire Fedore and Dr. Bhaven Sayania, offer orthodontic retainers for the residents of Charlotte, Elizabeth, Huntersville and surrounding communities in North Carolina.
What are Orthodontic Retainers?
Orthodontic retainers are appliances used after braces or Invisalign®. The reason you may need a retainer is to hold your teeth in place until the bone fully heals. You may need to wear the retainer for a year or longer, but don’t worry. Retainers are much easier to manage than braces. The appliance fits comfortably in your mouth, and it only takes a day or two to get used to talking and chewing with the retainer.
What are the Benefits of Retainers?
You spent a long time taking care of your teeth and straightening your smile. Imagine your teeth losing their new positions because the bone isn’t fully healed! This is why you may need to wear a retainer.
What Types of Retainers are Available?
You will either wear a permanent retainer bonded to your teeth or a removable retainer. Removable retainers may need to be replaced periodically, so we offer lifetime retainers to our patients.
What Should I Expect from My Retainers?
Did you know your teeth are constantly moving? After you have braces, you may feel especially protective of your smile, and a retainer can help. The retainer is worn inside or outside the upper and/or lower teeth. We use a mold to custom-fit the device. Removable retainers have to be worn every day, and the best time to use your removable retainer is at night while you sleep. You can take the retainer out to brush and floss your teeth.
